Most widespread trailing edges
for solitary nesters
with distinctive silhouettes
seen perching on fences
long slender necks small dovelike heads
running stopping then running again
in monogamous loose colonies
tended and protected by both sexes
streaked breasts and sides of heads
eggs speckled inland lakes
migration in straight-line formation
“ toe-wit, god-wit, whit “
cinnamon upturned bills
dusky tips dark chinned black billed
light colored in winter intermingling
frequently sleeping while standing
bills turned back zigzag patterns
rufous on scapulars larger lankier
raspy, “jeet” or “cheet” ...
