A cautious nature displaying a bright
white wing stripe in flight above nests lined
with dried grasses mosses and lichens
migrating by day or night while
clearly whistling “chee-wee, chur-wee,
chu-weet” creamy pink legs and feet
gregarious in post-breeding seasons
eating fly larvae high on the beach
both wings dragging suddenly yielding
with good visibility chisel-tipped bills
actively hammering and chipping
seen walking gracefully on mudflats and shores
with a varied voice sharp, “kips”
plus musical “pill-e-wees” well after hatching
exhibiting streaks on flanks upright stances
sleeping while standing on land white rumps and tails ...
